Kid Favorite Dinner Idea!

I am always on the hunt for simple dinner ideas that I know my kids will eat willingly! These cheeseburger cups are one of my family’s favorite dinners because not only are they super cheesy and yummy, but who doesn’t love cheeseburgers?!

My oldest would eat cheeseburgers for every every meal if he could, so these are always well loved by my family and kids.

Super simple to make with convenient & prepared ingredients like canned biscuit dough, condiments such as ketchup, mustard, and relish. Get your kids involved and let them flatten the biscuit dough out while you cook and crumble the ground beef cheeseburger mixture on the stove top.

Why You’ll Love This Cheeseburger Cup Recipe

  • Simple Ingredients : Nothing fancy needed for this recipe! Convenient, store-bought condiments and ingredients are all you need – like ketchup, mustard, relish, prepared and ready-to-use biscuit dough, and ground beef. I always have the condiments on hand in my fridge so all I really have to buy is ground beef and the biscuits.
  • Kid-Approved & Loved! : Kids, and adults, love these cheesy gooey cheeseburger cups. You can eat them with your hands, and anything my kids can pick up with their hands and eat, is always a hit.
  • Kids Can Get Involved : My kids love to cut the biscuit dough in half and flatten them out either with clean hands or a rolling pin. By the time I am done making the ground beef cheeseburger mixture, the biscuits are all ready to go!

Ingredients Needed

  • Ground Beef – I use 93/7 ground beef for most recipes that call for it. You will end up draining the extra grease anyways, so you can use whatever you have available.
  • Minced or Chopped Garlic – Use fresh garlic cloves that have been minced or pressed, use chopped garlic from a jar, or use garlic paste.
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow Mustard – For some spice use spicy brown mustard or even dijon mustard. If you prefer a sweeter note then try using honey mustard.
  • Dill Pickle Relish
  • Flaky Jumbo (or Grands!) Biscuit Dough – This is the 8 count tube of biscuit dough found in the refrigerated section. Make sure that the can you are buying has 8 biscuits inside of it. The flaky version is also best to use.

How To Make Cheeseburger Cups with Biscuit Dough

Here are the simple, easy-to-follow directions for making this recipe for cheeseburger cups in your own kitchen. Be sure and read to the bottom of the page where there is a detailed recipe card, along with a printable option so you can have it for later.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray two 12-cup muffin pans with cooking spray. Set aside for now.
  2. In a large skillet pan, over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the ground beef and minced garlic for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease from the pan.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, and relish until combined well.
  4. Open the biscuit can and cut each biscuit in half vertically. You should have a total of 16 smaller pieces of biscuit. Flatten each biscuit piece with your hands or a rolling pin, and then press it into a muffin pan cavity to create the ‘biscuit cup’ for the cheeseburger filling.
  5. Place one cheese cube onto the bottom of each biscuit cup. Scoop 1.5 tablespoons of the ground beef mixture into each biscuit cup.
  6. Bake for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Take the pan out of the oven and place two more cheese cubes on top of each biscuit cup. Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the biscuit cups are golden brown.
  8. Allow them to cool for about 3-5 minutes before removing them from the muffin tin and serving.

Expert Tips For Success

  • Variations : Use ground turkey or ground turkey instead of ground beef. To replicate the classic cheeseburger taste, I recommend using ground beef. If you want a leaner dish then use the leanest ground beef possible.
  • Mustard : The recipe calls for yellow mustard, but you can use spicy mustard, spicy brown mustard, or even dijon mustard for a different and stronger taste.
  • Mild Cheddar Cheese : You will need 48 small cubes of cheese which is equal to about half of an 8 ounce block of cheese. If you want a smoother and much creamier melt, try using cubed Velveeta cheese. Shredded cheese can also be used in place of cubed cheese. For the best melt and texture I recommend shredding your own cheese with a cheese grater.
  • Storage Instructions : These are best served warm from the oven. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to 4 days. To reheat, it’s easiest to use the microwave. The results will be a softer biscuit cup that is not as flaky and light, but they’re still delicious.
  • Biscuit Tip : You need to cut each biscuit in half so you end up with two pieces per biscuit, so 16 pieces total. You then use a rolling pin to roll each piece flat or use your hands to flatten them. You don’t need the biscuit dough really thin, but rather flattened enough to create a cup inside the muffin tin. This is what creates the cute little biscuit cups that hold the meat inside of them.

Kitchen Supplies I Recommend

  • Muffin Pan : I love this USA Brand Muffin Pan. It bakes up perfectly evenly and it’s strong and lasts forever.
  • Ground Meat Chopper : This is my #1 most loved kitchen utensil, ever! It’s a must when cooking ground meat of any kind. This Ground Meat Chopper crumbles up the meat perfectly into small pieces.
  • Cutting Board : I didn’t know it was possible to have a Favorite Cutting Board but here we are… I love theses ones cause they clean really well and don’t get those marks on them that hold bacteria and what not inside.

Cheeseburger Cups are a fun and delicious twist to a classic cheeseburger! Each biscuit cup is cheesy, flavorful, flaky, and loved by all. An easy 30 minute dinner recipe that is sure to be a hit.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • teaspoons minced or chopped garlic
  • 5 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
  • 1 tube (16 oz) jumbo flaky biscuits (8 count can)
  • 48 cubes mild cheddar cheese (1/2 of an 8 oz block of cheese)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray two 12-cup muffin pans with cooking spray. Set aside for now.
  • In a large skillet pan, over medium-high heat, brown and crumble the ground beef and minced garlic for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease from the pan.

  • Allow them to cool for about 3-5 minutes before removing them from the muffin tin and serving.

Notes

Cheese Cubes Tip : Make sure that the cheese cubes are really small cubes. These cheeseburger cups are not huge, so you want to make sure the cheese cubes are not super big pieces. You can use any variety of cheese that you want. I normally use mild cheddar cheese. You can also swap it out and use shredded cheese or cubed Velveeta cheese as well.
I love using a 1.5 tablespoon cookie scoop to evenly scoop the cheeseburger mixture into each biscuit cup. If you don’t have one, I have linked to my favorite one in the blog post above OR just use a tablespoon measuring spoon and measure it out with that.
Biscuits : After making this recipe for forever, the flaky jumbo biscuits turn out the best. I recommend using a flaky version rather than homestyle or buttermilk version of the biscuits.
