One of my main goals with this site is to share fun, happy recipes, that everyone can have a good time making. I always love simple and easy recipes that my kids love to make!

Why You’ll Love This Fun Recipe

  • Fun To Make! – I always love simple recipes like this one that my kids can make during the long summer days. My youngest is obsessed with crabs at the moment, so these crab cookies are one of his favorite activities to do. Plus, you really can’t not smile when making and eat a cute Oreo Crab!
  • Few Ingredients – You only need 4 store-bought, ready to use ingredients for this recipe. Easy peasy!
  • Perfect For Parties – If you’re throwing a summertime gathering/party, or beach themed birthday party then this is the perfect recipe to have. A fun way to serve the crabs is on top of crushed graham crackers (for the sand) and then I like to buy some ocean themed gummies and candies and place them around the Oreo cookie crabs. It makes for a fun presentation.

Easy Ingredients Needed

  • Double Stuf Oreo Cookies – You want to use the double stuf Oreo cookies because they have more filling inside, which gives more substance for the twirlers to stay on.
  • Red Candy Melts – These are those small round disc of melting chocolate in the red color. You’ll find them in a craft store or the cake-decorating aisle of Walmart has them as well.
  • Edible Candy Eyeballs – These are edible, but they’re not the easiest thing for kids to chew. They are rather hard and crunchy. I’m always afraid my kids will break their tooth on them, so we take the eyes off before eating.
  • Twizzler Pull n’ Peel Licorice – These are the cherry flavored licorice that come in larger rolls made up of the thinner pull n’ peel pieces. You will need to separate the pull n’ peel pieces for the ‘crab legs’.

How To Make Oreo Crab Cookies

  1. Use a small knife to gently pry off the tops of the Oreo cookies. You want to try to keep all the white cream filling on one Oreo.
  2. Create the ‘crab legs’ by separating the ropes on the pull n’ peel Twizzlers. Lay all the ropes horizontally on a cutting board and cut them into 2-inch pieces. You need 6 legs per crab, so cut as many as you need.
  3. Gently press the legs into the white cream part of the Oreo cookie. Arrange them so they are spaced equally apart.
  4. Microwave the red candy melts accordion to the directions on the back of the bag. Place the melted candy into a piping bag or sandwich baggie. Cut a small hole at the bottom corner of the piping bag or ziploc bag. Use a dollop of the candy melts as ‘glue’ for the legs. Place the top piece of the Oreo cookie on top and gently press down to secure it.
  5. Take the remaining candy melts and cover the top of each Oreo cookie. Gently place two candy eyeballs onto each crab.
  6. Let them set for about 15-30 minutes so the chocolate can harden and set. Enjoy!

FAQ’s & Helpful Tips

  • Candy Melts : Once they are melted and you start to use them on the cookie, they will set and harden pretty quickly, so make sure you are ready to hurry and finish all the cookies. Have the eyeballs ready to go.
  • Fun Presentation Idea : Crush some graham cracker cookies for ‘sand’ to serve the crabs on. You can also buy some ocean themed gummy candies and Swedish fish to place around the crabs.
  • How Should I Store Oreo Crab Cookies? : Store these cookies in an airtight container, at room temperature, for up to 4-5 days.
  • What If I Can’t Find Candy Melts? : These are usually very easy to find either at craft stores or in the cake decorating aisle at Walmart, but if you can’t find them you can use red icing. The icing won’t set as hard as the candy melts will.
