How To Make Halloween Brownies Stuffed With Oreo Cookies

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper. I always recommend spraying the pan with cooking spray and then pressing the parchment paper into the pan. The spray will help it adhere and stay in place when you’re spreading the brownie batter into the pan.

Prepare the brownies according to the directions on the back of the box. Typically it calls for oil, eggs, and water.

Pour half of the brownie batter into the pan and spread it in an even layer.

Place 20 Oreos onto the brownie batter (in even rows) and gently press them into the batter.

Spoon the remaining brownie batter over top the Oreos and spread it into an even layer.

Bake for 28-31 minutes. When down, allow the brownies to cool completely inside the pan.

Stir the orange gel food coloring into the vanilla frosting container and mix well until it’s the color you want. Spread the frosting over top the cooled brownies.

Store-Bought Frosting Tip

My trick for getting store-bought canned frosting fluffy and easy to spread is by whipping it up inside a stand mixer or using an electric hand mixer with a mixing bowl. Whip the frosting on medium speed until it’s light and fluffy looking. It’s also an easy way to color it as well with the orange food coloring.

Can I Use a Classic Box of Brownie Mix Instead of Family-Size Brownie Mix?

Yes, if you want to make a smaller batch then use a regular brownie mix (around 15-16 ounces) and use a 9×9 baking pan instead. You will also only need 16 Oreo cookies to stuff in the middle of the brownie batter.

What Oil Is Best To Use For a Boxed Brownie Mix?

I find that vegetable oil or canola oil are the best to use. They are neutral oils that won’t affect the flavor of the brownies.

Substitution & Variation Ideas For Halloween Oreo Brownies

  • Color of Frosting : Use green or purple gel food coloring instead of orange. I love using the neon pack of gel food coloring when I make this recipe. The colors are brighter and look better for the Halloween colors.
  • Decorative Candy : Use any candy you want on top of the brownies. I love the worms for the spookier holiday but anything will work.
  • Brownie Mix : Use a milk chocolate mix, chocolate fudge mix, or a dark chocolate mix. Just make sure that it’s the larger family-size box that is made in an 9×13 baking pan.
