Movie Night Charcuterie Board Recipe

I hate to even call this a recipe because it’s basically a ‘grab-whatever-you-have-in-your-pantry-and-make-a-charcuterie-board’ type of recipe or idea.

My family loves to watch movies together and we try to do it weekly. No phones allowed and I always love having plenty of movie munching snacks. With two teenagers in my house, lots of snacks is always a good idea!

Making a charcuterie board is a simple way to serve it all together. You can even make mini charcuterie boards on plate or small baking trays for each person.

Why You’ll Love A Movie Night Snack Tray (Charcuterie Board)

  • Customize – Use whatever candy, snacks, and treats you want for this snack board. Anything goes! You can make it as healthier or as not healthy as you want 😉
  • Big Snacking Board vs Mini Snack Boards – I love using a large cookie sheet/baking tray to make a big snack board. You can also use smaller plates or smaller baking sheets to create individual snack board for reach person. Or, have all the snacks laid out and every person creates their own snack board.
  • Movie Munchies! – Everyone loves munching on snacks during movies! Making a giant snack board is probably cheaper than buying everyone candy, popcorn, and drinks at the theater.

What Is a Charcuterie Board?

A traditional, and probably the original charcuterie board, is a large tray of a selection of meat or cheeses surrounded by other foods that complement them – such as different types of meat, fruit, cheese, spreads, nuts, and crackers.

Over the years the traditional charcuterie board has morphed into this fun idea of adding complementing foods onto a large board. Such as this movie night charcuterie board – we are taking classic movie munchies and adding them to one large board or platter.

A charcuterie board is perfect for entertaining – whether it’s a family gathering, guests over, or for a party – it’s the perfect centerpiece and a charcuterie board always contains a variety of foods which works well when a large group is gathering. Everyone can take what they like!

There are endless types of charcuterie boards you can create. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Appetizers, Fruits, Desserts, After School Snacks, Yogurt Parfait Board, Breakfast Board, etc.

How to Make a Movie Night Charcuterie Board (Movie Munching Snack Tray)

  1. Pop the popcorn according to the package directions. You can make this popcorn anyway you prefer – microwave popcorn, air popper, traditional popcorn machine, etc.
  2. Create a thick row of popcorn diagonally down the middle of the platter or board. For a fun look, put some popcorn inside popcorn paper bags and lay them on their sides (like what is pictured).
  3. Warm or bake the pretzels according to the package directions and add them to the board in one corner by the popcorn. Place the cup of nacho cheese or queso cheese next to the pretzel bites.
  4. Add the candies such as twizzlers, sour patch kids, milk duds, Reese’s miniature cups, skittles into the open spots on the board. Depending on how small or big the board is, you may need additional candies or snacks to fill in the spots. Adding some chips is an easy way to fill the gaps. Or crackers such as Oreo cookies, Chips Ahoy, or Nilla wafers.
  5. Serve with small paper plates or cups, or everyone can just munch from the tray!

Charcuterie Board Tips

  • Variety of Snacks : Variety is the key to making a visually interesting snack try. Not only will a variety appeal to all the movie watchers, but the more stuff and colors you can put on the charcuterie board – the better. Don’t be afraid to buy lots of different candies and treats. The dollar store is a great place to find an affordable assortment of candies or get the ‘concession-sized’ candy boxes from the store. No need to buy large amounts of any one item. It’s better to buy several smaller sized items when making a charcuterie board.
  • Serving Tray Ideas : If you don’t have a large charcuterie board, use a cookie sheet or other large serving platter. Any tray or platter can be used, but depending on the size of it, you may need more or less candy and treats. You can also use smaller trays, plates, or small baking sheets to create individual sized movie night charcuterie board. Another option is just to lay out all the treats and snacks and everyone can create their own charcuterie board- maybe lay out bowls or fun paper cups so everyone can build their own.
  • Tip : Servings and ingredients are just approximates and will vary based on the size of your snack tray and what items you choose to use.
