Mini Trix Cereal Treats
Just when you thought classic gooey marshmallow Rice Krispie treats couldn’t get any better – along comes these colorful, fun, fruity, and sweet Mini Trix cereal treats.
My kids are obsessed with the mini cereals they have out now. Are yours? So it was no surprise to me when I made these trix cereal treats and they disappeared so fast!!
Only 3 main ingredients + optional melted white chocolate if you want to dip the treats into the white chocolate.

Simple Ingredients Needed
- Marshmallows : You need 12 ounces of marshmallows, which is the regular bag of marshmallows, and not the mini sized ones. The mini marshmallows come in a 10 ounce bag which is not enough.
- Salted Butter : If you’re using unsalted butter then you may want to add a pinch of salt for some balance in the recipe.
- Mini Trix Cereal : The mini sized Trix cereal are so adorably cute and my kids swear they taste better! But for real, I highly recommend using the mini sized Trix cereal!
- White Chocolate Chips : This is totally optional and it’s for dipping the bottom of the cereal treat in, or you drizzle it over the cereal treats, or dip in one half of the cereal treat. Or just don’t dip at all! I have made them both ways and they’re equally delicious.

How To Make Trix Cereal Treats
Lightly spray a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray. You can also line it with parchment paper (I like to spray the pan first, that way the parchment paper sticks to the pan better because of the cooking spray).
In a large pot, over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add in the marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth.
Remove the pot from the heat and quickly add the mini Trix cereal. Stir until the cereal is well coated in the marshmallow mixture.
Transfer the cereal mixture to the prepared pan. Gently press it into the pan using a rubber spatula or a piece of wax paper/parchment paper.
Let the cereal treats sit at room temperature and cool for 1 hour. Cut into squares and enjoy!

White Chocolate Step : Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Add the white chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 20-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth and completely melted.
Cut the Trix cereal treats into squares.
Dip the bottom of each treat into the melted white chocolate, letting any excess drip off. Place the dipped treats onto the prepared cookie sheet.

Use a spoon, or transfer the melted white chocolate into a ziplock bag with the corner snipped, to drizzle the remaining melted white chocolate over top each cereal treat.
Allow the white chocolate to completely set before serving. Place the treats in the fridge to speed up the process (about 15 minutes) or let them set at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

How To Store Leftover Cereal Treats
Store the treats inside an airtight container, or Zipoc bag, at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.

What Are Some Substitutions I Can Make?
- Cereal : There are tons of varieties now of the mini cereals, so pick your favorite and use it! We love the bright colors and fruity taste of the mini Trix cereal.
- Butter : Salted butter is what the recipe calls for because of the added salt to help balance the sweetness. You can use unsalted butter but you may want to add a pinch of salt to help balance things. If using margarine, dairy-free option, or plant-based butter alternative then you will also want to add a pinch of salt.

Recipe FAQ’s
Can I make these in the microwave?
Yes, you can! Melt the butter and marshmallows in a large microwave-safe bowl, in 30-second intervals, stirring it well after each one. Once the mixture is smooth and completely melted you’re done. Quickly mix in the cereal and proceed with the recipe.
How can I make the white chocolate drizzle look neater?
Use a piping bag with the corner snipped OR a small tip. You can also place the melted chocolate into a ziplock bag and cut the bottom corner off. Doing it this way will give you more control over where the white chocolate lands when drizzled. Or make it real simple and dip a fork into the melted white chocolate and have at it.
What if my marshmallow and butter mixture hardens before I mix in the cereal?
If the marshmallow mixture hardens before you mix in the cereal, reheat it gently over low heat while stirring constantly, until it softens again and is smooth. Make sure you have the cereal measured and ready to go, so you can immediately add it into the marshmallow mixture. Don’t wait too long at all!
How can I prevent sticking from the gooey marshmallows?
To prevent sticking while mixing the treats and pressing them into the pan, there are a couple of tips to help prevent it. Spray the mixing utensil with some cooking spray before stirring the cereal into the gooey marshmallow mixture. You could also use a silicone spatula to mix it, which naturally is more non-stick than other stirring utensils. Use the butter wrapper, some wax paper or parchment paper, to press the treats into the pan to prevent them from sticking to your hands. You can also spray your hands with cooking spray if wanted or get them slightly damp.
